A heat pump extracts heat from the outside air or the ground and uses electricity to raise its temperature to the level needed for heating and hot water. Each 1 kWh of electricity produces several times as much heat: air-to-water heat pumps achieve a COP of around 5, while ground-source heat pumps reach up to 6.5.
An air-to-water heat pump is easier to install because it requires no boreholes or ground loop, making it suitable for most homes. A ground-source heat pump requires groundworks but offers the highest efficiency and the most consistent performance on the coldest days. Use the calculator or speak to an IGLU consultant to help you choose.
Capacity is selected based on your home’s heat loss, not just its floor area. IGLU air-to-water heat pumps are available in capacities from 5 to 16 kW, and ground-source models from 4 to 18 kW. Use the calculator for an initial estimate, then consult an IGLU specialist for an accurate assessment.
Yes, provided you choose a model that delivers a sufficiently high water temperature. The IGLU Inuit Mono supplies water at up to 75 °C, making it suitable for homes undergoing renovation that have radiators, without the need for additional heat sources.
Running costs depend on the home. For example, heating a renovated home of around 200 m² with gas cost approximately €1,600 per heating season, compared with up to €700 using a heat pump with a seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) of around 4.
Yes. IGLU heat pumps provide heating, cooling and domestic hot water. Cooling can be delivered through underfloor systems, passive chilled ceilings or fan coil units.
Yes, when replacing an old, inefficient or polluting heating system. Applications are submitted through the LEA system after the heat pump has been installed, and the grant is calculated based on its capacity and a fixed rate. IGLU models meet the grant eligibility requirements.
