Residential complex in Jūrmala: efficient hybrid heating and a fast solution for a 20-apartment building

Projektas: Daugiabutis Jūrmaloje

Pastato paskirtis: Gyvenamoji

Šalis: Latvija

Statusas: Įgyvendinta

Object type: Apartment building

Location: Jūrmala, Latvia

Total area: 2300 m² (20 apartments)

Equipment: IGLU Aleut and IGLU Inuit heat pumps (integration with a gas boiler)

Challenge: tight deadlines and the need for a reliable energy source

While developing a residential project in Jūrmala with 20 apartments and a total area of 2,300 m², one of the key priorities became the implementation of an efficient, modern system for heating and domestic hot water production. In the initial stage, a decision was made to choose geothermal heating, but the project developers faced a market challenge — delivery times for other manufacturers’ equipment stretched up to 6 months. Such a wait would have delayed the commissioning of the entire site and the finishing works.

To avoid downtime and ensure top quality, the client decided to try a Lithuanian manufacturer’s IGLU TECH solutions.

Solution: from initial trial to a full hybrid system

The project was implemented in several phases, ensuring the client’s complete confidence in the equipment’s efficiency:

  1. Practical testing: For an initial check, a primary “IGLU Aleut” heat pump was ordered and installed. After confirming the equipment’s operation, high coefficient of performance (COP), and smooth automation, the decision was made to implement the extended “IGLU Inuit” heat pump solution for the entire 20-apartment building.
  2. Hybrid heating model: To optimize operating costs and investments, a smart hybrid system was installed in the apartment building, combining “IGLU” heat pumps with the existing gas boiler.

How does the system operate in different seasons?

The engineering solution is designed to ensure maximum energy efficiency and uninterrupted comfort for residents all year round:

  • In the summer season: The “IGLU” heat pumps operate in a highly economical mode and cover 100% of the building’s domestic hot water demand.
  • During transitional periods and in mild cold: The power of the “IGLU Inuit” heat pumps is fully sufficient for building heating and hot water. During this period, the lowest possible costs and clean energy are ensured.
  • During peak cold snaps: When the outdoor temperature drops to extreme lows, the automated system brings in the gas boiler (bivalent mode) to maintain optimal system balance and protect the equipment from excessive wear.

Results and benefits for the client

  • Time saved: Thanks to the rapid production and delivery time of IGLU TECH equipment, the site was assembled without long downtime.
  • Flexibility and reliability: The tested IGLU Aleut solution enabled the client to make an informed decision to proceed with installing IGLU Inuit throughout the entire 2300 m² facility.
  • High energy efficiency: The hybrid model ensures the lowest operating costs for most of the year, while peak loads are covered by a backup source.

Key project figures and facts:
